Education System of Bangladesh Open University is based on the Distance learning. BOU was established in 20th October, 1992 the basic motive of this university is to developing the talented people through the distance learning process from that every kind of Bangladeshi people can get education according to their field.

After the twelve years of establishment the university gives education to students of Bangladesh through electronic media, print, tutorial facilities. The students who are associated with BOU belong to the multiple backgrounds such as military officers, professionals, housewives, businessman and others students are studying in BOU.

BOU offers multiple courses such as:

School of Education:

BOU offers masters of education Med a Formal Programs, BEd which called bachelor of education, Certificate in Education (CEd)

-Non-formal Programs-, Environment, and Child & Maternal Health

Social Sciences, Humanities and Language School:

-Formal Programs- 4-year Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Social Science (BSS) and Bachelor of Law (LLB)

-3-year Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Social Science (BSS), Bachelor in English Language Teaching (BELT),

-Certificate in English Language Proficiency (CELP), Certificate in Arabic Language Proficiency (CALP)

-Non-formal Programs based on Working Women, Irrigation Management, Religion, and Knowledge of Policy.
